Founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche and his son, Ferry Porsche, this German company produces some of the most luxurious and sophisticated sports car ever built. On top of that, it is the major stakeholder of the Volkswagen group. The two companies joined in 2009 crating the biggest car company in Europe.
Porsche’s specialty is the creation of sports cars that really stand out. The philosophy behind the brand states that they are not purely sports cars producers, they are different. And the way to express their unique style has always been by presenting models with a character and personality never seen before. The first car the company introduced –the 356, in 1948– was a huge success, but it was not easy to deliver in big scale since the Second World War devastated Europe. This first model had many more versions (A, B, etc) which progressively impressed the customers and the general public. The 356A developed in 1956, for example, reached the 200 km per hour. After 17 years of production and more than 76,300 units sold, the 356 was ready to leave the scenery for another model that would consolidate Porsche even more: the 911.
Nowadays Porsche is concentrated in becoming a more popular sports cars brand, reaching new markets and customers. 2013 was a historic year because the company sold more than 162,000 vehicles for the first time. Iconic cars like the 911 continue to seduce people, as well the new stunning models.
