This company had a strange beginning, different from the rest of the competitors. Saab was first, and remains today, an aviation company. It was founded in Sweden in 1937 and the main activity was the production of planes. It didn’t take long before it started to expand and so by the end of the decade of 1940, the car division was created. Thanks to the first car presented and to the many others that came after, Saab won for itself the reputation of being a company that produces safe and solid cars.
However, the passion for planes has never left the spirit of Saab and that is why the automobile division participated for example in the production of cars to test airports’ landing strips. In the other hand, the deep knowledge of aviation engineering helped Saab to apply specific technology to their cars, making them a lot safer than any other brand in the market.
The history of Saab has had its ups and downs, and even reached the point of claiming bankruptcy in 2011.But recently and after two years of being absent; Saab initiated the production of the sedan 9-3. The new owner of the company -National Electric Vehicle Sweden-, is planning on producing at least ten cars per week and the destination will be China.
